A URBANIZAÇÃO NA ZONA COSTEIRA E OS IMPACTOS AMBIENTAIS – O CASO DA RMBS NO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO

The paper addresses Coastal Zones, which are regions that have a great influence on a
country’s development due to the process of territory occupation in the face of issues related
to the consequences of climate changes and disordered urban growth. They are essential
to understanding how urbanization has impacted the environment, especially in coastal regions,
as they are areas with great biodiversity and at risk. Within the scope of the extensiveof the region, the legislation pertaining to the delimitation of the coastal zone, as well as
the instruments related to their protection and the consequences and impacts observed in
the highlighted region. There are some initiatives in the sense that the Government, States
and Municipalities are engaged in the elaboration of coastal management plans, which
opens space for the participation of different actors in order for the actions to be effective.
However, it is noted that in the MRBS no municipality has developed the municipal coastal
management plan, and coastal management needs to be articulated with the master plans,
the Integrated Urban Development Plan, and the municipal and metropolitan sector plans.
Brazilian coastline, we will focus on assessing the Metropolitan Region of Baixada Santista,
in the State of São Paulo. This paper reviews the urbanization processes in the main cities
