Abstract

Since the beginning of the 1970s, the context of the “War on Drugs” established, through
the imposition of the United States and the United Nations, international limits for
Brazilian action, resulting in a prohibitionist strategy. In this way, the research axis focuses
around the foreign policy adopted by the FHC government and Brazil’s stance on the drugs
issue during this period, emphasizing the influence exerted by the “War on Drugs” context.
Thus, the article used a wide bibliographic survey around the theme of securitization of
drug repression policies and border control, with emphasis on the Amazon frontier, within
the scope of Brazilian foreign policy, together with a documentary research of international
reports and national legislation related to the issue of drugs.
