SÉRIE HISTÓRICA DA COBERTURA VACINAL DA BCG NA REGIÃO METROPOLITANA DA BAIXADA SANTISTA DE 2010 A 2018

Abstract

Tuberculosis is a major public health problem in Brazil and worldwide. Vaccination is the only safe form of protection to prevent severe forms of tuberculosis. The Metropolitan Region of Baixada Santista has one of the worst incidence coefficients of the disease in the state. Objective: To analyze the historical series of BCG vaccination coverage between 2010 and 2018, and the association with the number of maternity hospitals. Method: Mixed ecological study of time series, with secondary data of doses applied and live births next to the database of the Unified Health System. Descriptive analysis and Kruskal-Wallis, Dunn and Chi-square tests were performed. Significance level of 5%. Results: The region presented great heterogeneity of vaccination coverage for BCG, with worse average in 2017 (p<0.05). Some municipalities have shown a downward trend since 2010, with worsening in 2016 and 2017 such as Praia Grande (p<0.05) and São Vicente (p<0.05). In 2017, there was an association between the distribution of maternity hospitals and vaccination coverage (p < 0.05) for private and total maternity hospitals. Conclusion: The regional logic of the Stork Network and the distribution of maternity hospitals is decisive in vaccination coverage, but it is not clear the factors of the trend of bcg’s fall in the region
