EDUCAÇÃO INDÍGENA: UMA PESQUISA DE CAMPO NA ALDEIA AGUAPEÚ, MONGAGUÁ

This article aims to present data on education of native Brazilians restructured by MEC (Culture and Education Ministry in English) in 1998. It was written to change the preconceptions about schools for Brazilian natives and their education. Focused on the Aguapeú indigenous village, located in the city of Mongaguá, the biggest village in Baixada Santista, the research has comparisons between the educational system outside and inside the village, and also between the Awa Porungawa Dju village, from Peruíbe, and the Aguapeú village. It also presents the problems students and teachers face in terms of school material, classes schedule, and space, as well as it suggests possible solutions.
