Abstract

This article aims to identify the presence of a social engagement in Clarice Lispector’s work,
having A Hora da Estrela as the book reference, a romance published in 1977. In the analysis,
it will be highlighted the range of social and dialogical voices based in the discourse of
Others elaborated by Mikhail Bakhtin in Marxism and Philosophy of Language, besides theoretical
concepts from Literatura e Sociedade by Antonio Candido. The application of these
theories intends the revelation of a social concern and criticism existing in the last book published
by the author. Therefore, it is expected the reflection on a diverse construction of the
social theme on Clarice’s literature, which, because of its rupture and innovative character,
reflects on the treatment of social matters that behold the writer’s texts.
