A CONDIÇÃO DA MULHER AFRO-BRASILEIRA SOB A ÓTICA DE LIMA BARRETO: UMA ANÁLISE SOCIOCRÍTICA DE CLARA DOS ANJOS

Abstract

The inferiorization of the culture and the potential of the Afro groups ended up, a priori,
manifested in art sometimes through silence, sometimes through a distorted, partial reality,
told by the white voice. In a second moment, literature, above all, served to criticize the
excluding principles, an initiative in which Lima Barreto showed himself to be very engaged,
given the feeling of injustice born from the prejudice situations that the black, humble writer both suffered and witnessed throughout his trajectory. Clara dos Anjos was one of his
most famous works, specifically denouncing the exploitation of black and mixed-race women
living in the Brazilian suburbs; thus, this article draws a parallel between the social context
of Brazil in the 20th century and the discourse of the work, affirming the literary path as a
place of resistance.
