AS INTERTEXTUALIDADES DOS ASPECTOS SOCIAIS, CULTURAIS E POLÍTICOS EM O CONTO DA AIA

This research proposes to reflect and analyze the intertextualities of social, political and
cultural aspects on The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atoowd. For that, it is necessary to
research about the author, the historical context in which she is inserted and how such information may have influenced the narrative. Finally, it will be discussed how intertextuality
is perceptible on the three pillars: social (the division of classes according to the color of clothing and the situation of women in the book), political (how the theocratic and dictatorial
regime works of the narrative) and cultural (analysis of the events celebrated in the portrayed
society, based on a literal and biased interpretation of the Holy Bible).
