The Maria da Penha Law is an important legislation that aims to prevent and punish domestic violence against women. However, its implementation still faces challenges, especially in a context of rapid social and technological transformation, as is the case in the so-called information society. This paper analyzes the significance of the Maria da Penha Law in an increasingly connected and digital world, discussing the challenges and opportunities that technology presents for the prevention and combat of violence against women. The first section of this article addresses violence against women, providing context based on feminist literature from the 1980s. The second section explores the legal innovations and changes that have made the Maria da Penha Law a fundamental milestone in the fight against gender-based violence in Brazil. The article concludes that the aforementioned law represents a significant advancement in protecting the rights of women who are victims of domestic and family violence. In addition to establishing protective measures and stricter punishments for offenders, the law has brought about important changes in the legal sphere.
