Abstract

University extension is a fundamental strategy for a process of change in academic practice, enabling an emancipatory and critical formation, an insertion with the social and political reality and an exchange of experiences outside the walls. Academic leagues constitute university extension scenarios by promoting activities that provide a space for interaction between students, professionals and the community. In this perspective, Unisantos' Academic Tuberculosis Control League was created in 2008 by nursing students, due to the high rate of incidence of Tuberculosis (TB) in the region, with articulated actions with the primary health care network. The objective of this study was to report the experience of academics in the Tuberculosis Control League of the Catholic University of Santos. This is a descriptive study, of the experience report type. The Martins Fontes Family Health Strategy Unit was chosen, as it is located in the central area of the municipality of Santos and is inserted in a highly vulnerable territory. It is noteworthy that the continuous presence of academics with health education actions strengthened ties with the team and with the population, allowing students to experience the daily life of a primary health care unit, integrating teaching-service and community.
