ABSTRACT
Population aging has been a growing global reality since mid-20th century. Ageism is a form of discrimination that occurs when people are judged based on their age, a phenomenon that is most common among the elderly in much of contemporary Western society. Such prejudice has harmful consequences for the human well-being not only of the elderly, but also of younger individuals, undermining the positivity of human development. This essay presents reflections on ageism, focusing on environmental psychology in relation to interactions between the elderly and the various dimensions of the environment, including physical and social.
Keywords: ageism, human development, environmental psychology.
